Kirby Capen was an AFS Returnee to Ghana eager to spread the AFS mission of intercultural communication and peace. Kirby became an active member of the AFS NYC Metro & Hudson Valley Area Team upon completion of her AFS program. In memory of Kirby, the AFS NYC Metro & Hudson Valley Area Team has established a scholarship to support a student accepted to go on an AFS program.
Scholarship Type: Merit-based
Scholarship Value: $1,000
Available Scholarship(s): One (1) award
Applicable Programs: AFS Year, Semester, Summer or Global Prep Programs
Application Deadline: April 1, 2020 – must be accepted to go on an AFS program before applying
Students must meet the following eligibility requirements:
- Must show commitment and enthusiasm to both volunteering and intercultural learning
- Must reside in the NYC Metro & Hudson Valley Area Team
- Preference will be given to applicants residing in Long Island, NY
- Complete the 2020 AFS NYC Metro & Hudson Valley Local Scholarship Application
