AFS Returnee – U.S. to Chile 1998; AFS Host Brother
Ian was most recently VP of Operations for Trove, an e-commerce company that powers trade-in programs and resale of used items for leading brands and retailers including Patagonia, REI, and Levi’s. After a few years in healthcare consulting, he earned his MBA and has spent nearly two decades helping tech companies navigate rapid growth and change. His experience spans different company stages from growing Walmart’s online business to a twenty-person startup, but throughout he has focused on working collaboratively to solve problems, building software to unlock new capabilities, and leveraging data to help drive decisions.
Ian spent a summer abroad in southern Chile through AFS with his host “grandmother”, who had hosted his father through AFS thirty years earlier. It was a transformative experience that informed his appreciation and respect for people of different cultures and the importance of creating educational and economic opportunities for everyone. Ian studied economics at Stanford University, spending a semester in Madrid, and got his MBA at the Haas School of Business at UC Berkeley.
He lives in the San Francisco Bay Area with his wife Alice and daughter Evie, who is preparing for her own AFS journey at a Spanish immersion preschool.
