Welcome to the AFS New Mexico & Beyond Team

Welcome to the AFS New Mexico & Beyond Team website. We are a group of 40+ dedicated volunteers who collaborate to make the world a better — and more peaceful — place through high school intercultural exchange. Won’t you join us in our mission?

Where are we Located?

The AFS New Mexico & Beyond Team operates throughout New Mexico; Durango, Colorado; and El Paso, Texas; although we focus primarily in the Albuquerque area. We are always open to hosting students anywhere in these areas if there are enough volunteers to support hosted student there. This year we are hosting students in Albuquerque, Rio Rancho, and Santa Fe. In past years, we have hosted students in Las Cruces, El Paso, Durango, Farmington, Clovis, Clayton, Las Vegas (NM), Los Lunas, and Carlsbad to name a few.

How are we Doing?

The AFS New Mexico & Beyond Team hosts about 10 students and sends 2 to 6 American teenagers abroad every year. We would especially love to increase the number of students from New Mexico that we send abroad. For the 2018-2019 school year, our numbers are as follows:

  • 40+ Active AFS Volunteers

  • 11 Students hosted in the New Mexico Area Team

  • 2 U.S. students sent abroad for a year, semester or summer programs

How can you get Involved?

If you have a passion for learning more about other cultures and working with youth, we welcome your help with hosting and sending, orientations, excursions, interviewing, support of the hosted students and a myriad of other activities with really awesome people who care about making the world a better place, so if you want to get involved please visit this page.
