Team Overview

Welcome to the Heartland Kansas Area

An intercultural experience as a host family or American student abroad can begin here! The experiences available with AFS can be life-changing for families, siblings and students. We hope you’ll join us as we “connect lives and share cultures”.

Where are we located?

Located in the center of the Great Plains of the United States, the Heartland Team covers the state of Kansas (excluding Kansas City) and a small portion of the Oklahoma “panhandle” (far southwest). We consist of eight Chapters : Greater Wichita (south central); Chapman, Topeka and Manhattan (northeast); Osborne and Downs (north central); Goodland (northwest); and Garden City (southwest).

How can you get involved?

If you heard of AFS from family or friends, have previously hosted, are a student returnee, or just want to become involved with other cultures, we encourage you to join with us. We have small tasks that can take an hour a day or an hour a month – and they all contribute to the AFS goal of making the world a more peaceful place.
