Host Family Resources

We're so incredibly grateful you've agreed to go through our rigorous screening process to become a host family for AFS.

We hope you understand that these are part of the Department of State's mandates that AFS-USA helped establish in order to keep the complex nature of international exchange a top-quality experience.

Our volunteer team will do everything in our power to make this a memorable intercultural experience. Thank you.

1 - Start your year with this!!!
It may be hokey but this simple questionnaire really does help establish most of the basics of this new and unusual relationship you have just embarked on. It quickly clarifies many things.

2 - Don't forget your mandatory monthly check ins
As a host family you and your student MUST check in with your assigned liaison before the last day of each month by phone, email or face to face. It's the law. If you don't hear from your liaison - give them a nudge.

3 - Health insurance questions?
AFS USA Students have an excellent health insurance plan. The plan number is on your hosted student's official AFS ID Card. Make sure you make a copy. Here's the 911 on the AFS health plan.
