The AFS-USA Greater Illinois team is a group of volunteers, host families, and community partners who help support the mission of AFS-USA in the team area of northern and central Illinois. About 100 registered volunteers support high school aged exchange students and prepare American students to travel abroad. Our team area runs from approximately the Fox River west to the Mississippi River in the northern part of our region (including Dubuque and the Quad Cities in Iowa), and extends from the Illinois/Wisconsin state line south as far as Quincy, Decatur, and Charleston Mattoon. We welcome new volunteers, potential host families, and students interested in going abroad because we are committed to the AFS Effect: the life-changing transformations and personal growth that result from deep intercultural experiences!
Team volunteers and host families are located in towns such as Aurora, Batavia, Bloomington, Cary, Champaign, Crystal Lake, Decatur, DeKalb, Harvard, Belvidere, Rockford, Freeport, Galena, Geneva, Mt. Zion, Normal, Rockford, Peoria, the Quad Cities, Urbana, Woodstock and Wonder Lake.
