The Grand Canyon Area Team

"Welcome to AFS Grand Canyon where we have over 100 passionate, active volunteers committed to the mission of building peace and understanding through international and intercultural learning experiences. There are many opportunities to become a part of the AFS global community:  host a student, study abroad, or join our volunteer force.  Wherever your interest lies, you will have the experience of a lifetime."

- SUZY SELBY, Volunteer Chair

Where are we located?

From the depths of the Grand Canyon and the snow-capped peaks of Flagstaff in the north, to the vast Sonoran Desert of Tucson and Phoenix in south– we are the Grand Canyon Team.  Our diverse network of volunteers, host families, and staff – as well as current and former AFSers – are located in Metro-Phoenix, Tucson, and Flagstaff.  Because the Grand Canyon Area Team encompasses such a large territory, we currently have two local chapters overseeing more defined regions – the North Valley Chapter (Metro-Phoenix and Flagstaff) and the Greater Tucson Chapter.  For chapter specific information, please click the “Chapters” link on the left.

How are we doing?

- We currently have 101 passionate, active volunteers
- In 2011, we hosted 37 students from various countries across the world
- In 2011, we sent 20 Arizona students abroad

Get involved!

The Grand Canyon Area Team is always looking for volunteers who are passionate about everything international and multicultural.  AFS is an organization for people who believe in the power of cultural understanding as a foundation for achieving a more just and peaceful world.  Joining AFS is a great way to learn about new cultures, share your own cultural experiences, and help students experience a once in a lifetime opportunity.  Our volunteer opportunities include:

• Sending
• Hosting
• Returnees

Please go the “Get Involved” tab on the left in order to learn about specific volunteer positions.  We will strive to help accomodate even the busiest of volunteers - there are always ways in which you can help!
