Study Abroad Scholarship

Local scholarships for students from Connecticut and New York.

Scholarship Details:

Kirby Capen was an AFS Returnee to Ghana. Eager to spread the AFS mission of intercultural communication and peace, Kirby became an active member of the AFS NYC Metro & Hudson Valley Area Team upon completion of her AFS program. In memory of Kirby, the AFS NYC Metro & Hudson Valley Area Team has established a $1,000 scholarship to support a student accepted to go on an AFS program.*

Eligibility:

AFS program applicants residing in the AFS NYC Metro & Hudson Valley Area Team region are welcome to apply for the NYC Metro & Hudson Valley Area Team Local Scholarship. This scholarship is to be awarded to a student who shows commitment and enthusiasm to both volunteering and intercultural learning. Preference is giving to students residing in Long Island, NY.

The AFS NYC Metro & Hudson Valley Area Team is comprised of southeastern New York and Connecticut, including all of New York City, Long Island, Delaware, Dutchess, Columbia, Greene, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Sullivan, Ulster, and Westchester Counties, as well as Fairfield County, CT.

Deadline:

The deadline to apply for the Kirby Capen AFS Study Abroad Scholarship is on March 31, 2019 (11:59pm EST). Applicants will be notified by April 25, 2019.

* Please note that application for any AFS NYC Metro & Hudson Valley Area Team local scholarships is separate from the Global Leaders need-based scholarship application and other merit scholarships. This scholarship award is determined locally by the AFS NYC Metro & Hudson Valley Area Leadership Team; funding is not guaranteed.
