The below scholarships are made possible by the generosity of the Fest family, the Allegretti Foundation, and volunteers from the AFS Colorado Rockies Area Team. AFS-USA and the Colorado Rockies Area Team share a commitment to diversity and encourage students from all backgrounds to apply for a scholarship, including students of color and members of underrepresented communities.

AFS Programs Departing in 2022:

Dawn Fest Memorial Scholarship

  • Scholarship Type: Need and Merit-based
  • Scholarship Value: Variable
  • Applicable Programs:  All Semester and Year High school programs (Departing in 2022)
  • Application Deadline: December 5, 2021 (programs departing January – March); May 8, 2022 (programs departing June – September)

AFS Colorado Diversity Scholarship

  • Scholarship Type: Need and Merit-based
  • Scholarship Value: Variable (up to 50% of the AFS program fee)
  • Applicable Programs:  All Summer (4-8 weeks) and Year programs (Departing in 2022)
  • Application Deadline: All Summer (4-8 weeks) and Year programs (Departing in 2022)
Students must meet the following eligibility requirements:
  1. Reside in Colorado and commit to attending a local AFS Pre-Departure orientation in the Denver area on Sunday, January 9, 2022, for programs departing January – March or Saturday, June 4, 2022, for programs departing June – September.
  2. Submit a FAST application to determine if you qualify for financial assistance and consideration by the AFS Colorado Rockies Scholarship Committee.
  3. Submit a minimum one-page letter to the AFS Colorado Rockies Scholarship Committee describing the following in detail: A. Why do you want to be an AFS exchange student? B. How you will promote intercultural awareness upon your return from abroad?  Describe your financial need and any fundraising you have completed and/or plan to do for your program fee and expenses.
  4. Submit your letter (PDF Format) to [email protected].

Recipients and the amount of each locally-determined scholarship are decided by the AFS Colorado Rockies Scholarship Committee made up of local Colorado volunteers and returnees. Please note that all applicants are not guaranteed funding. Scholarship applications are evaluated as they are received.

AFS Programs Departing in 2023:

AFS Colorado Diversity Scholarship & Dawn Fest Memorial Scholarship

  • Scholarship Type: Financial Need-Based
  • Eligibility: Students from diverse backgrounds including self-identifying Students of Color, members of the LGBTQ+ community, students with disabilities, and students that represent the wide spectrum of communities in the U.S. High school students must reside in the state of Colorado.
  • Scholarship Value:
    • One (1) Academic Year Program departing January – March 2023; the value is approximately 50% of the Program Fee.
    • One (1) Academic Year Program Departing June – September 2023; the value is approximately 90% of the Program Fee
