If you don’t need a sous chef to make a meal…

Offer your cooking skills to families that might find they don’t have enough time to cook a meal at the end of a busy day. Go to the families house and use the ingredients they provide to prepare the meal. Talk with your parents about the friends, neighbors, family members to advertise your fundraiser. Be sure you explain why you are fundraising, your motivations to study abroad, and details about AFS. Plan a list of the meals you are able/prepared to make. Keep in mind preparation time, availability of ingredients and level of complexity. You want to make things that are delicious, but aren’t too complicated or require fancy or expensive ingredients. Think about whether you will take requests for specific meals. Make fliers or create a shared document online where people can sign up to have you come to their home and cook dinner. By creating the document, you have control over what days/times you make yourself available and don’t run the risk of double booking yourself. Determine your fee ahead of time.Allow yourself time for clean up. Do the dishes, and put away pots and pans and any leftover food. This is a great fundraiser because there are no up-front costs for you since the family buys all the ingredients. You just show up at the scheduled time and prepare the meal. You might even be invited to sit down with the family to share the meal you made!
