Since you are staying in Latvia for more than 90 days, in a half-year period, you will need to apply for a Long Stay Visa- D Type.

You will need to visit the Embassy of the Republic of Latvia’s website to review their visa requirements. You will apply either in person on via mail. This is determined by the embassy.

You will apply by mail 4-6 weeks prior to your departure date.
How much will the visa cost?
Please contact the Embassy of Latvia to confirm the visa fee and acceptable forms of payment. Additionally, you will incur costs associated with obtaining, notarizing and legalizing the required documents.
Are any of these costs covered in my AFS program fee?
No, your program fee does not cover any of the costs related to obtaining your passport or visa.
Can I travel before the start of my program?
AFS recommends that you not plan any travel outside of the United States during the 2 months before your program departs. Obtaining a visa takes time and your passport is usually required for this. Should you choose to travel during this time and do not allow enough time to obtain your visa, you run the risk of jeopardizing your AFS travel arrangements and departing on time for your program.
