What type of visa do I need?
It is not necessary to obtain a visa prior to entering into Bosnia and Herzegovina. You will be required to obtain a residence card (“White Card”) upon arrival and a temporary residence permit within 75 days of your stay.
How do I apply for the Residence Permit?
You will apply for a temporary residence permit in your local host community. You must bring a series of documents with you in order to do so. You may also need to undergo a physical health examination at a local public medical institution. AFS-Bosnia and Herzegovina will help you with this process.
What documents will I need to collect in order to apply for the visa?

How much will the visa cost?
You should bring $200 USD to cover fees related to your registration and residence permit in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Are there any other expected costs?
There are additional costs involved in obtaining, notarizing and legalizing the required documents.
Are any of these costs covered in my AFS program fee?
No, your program fee does not cover any of the costs related to obtaining your passport or visa.
Can I travel before the start of my program?
You should not plan any travel outside the United States during the four weeks prior to your program start date. Should there be any changes to the residence permit process, this will give you time to collect additional documents.
