With its passion for food, philosophy, art, and architecture, France is an ideal place to immerse yourself in a new culture and language. This month-long French summer language program will give you an intensive French language learning experience in one of the most scenic places on Earth: the South of France. After your French language lessons, you’ll have the opportunity to play sports, hang out on the beach, and visit nearby cities like Monaco and Nice. By spending four weeks on the Côte D’Azur (The French Riviera) you’ll be able to eat, drink, and breathe French culture, to learn the language and soak in the atmosphere. You’ll also share a residence hall with fellow AFSers from around the world, giving you a truly cross-cultural experience. Your classes will be small and based on skill-level, and beginners are welcome.
Things to know
The French get a bad rap for being arrogant, but really they’re just proud of their language and history. They are generally hospitable and most will be interested in learning about you and your culture. Food is very important to the French, and you really will see locals strolling down the street with a baguette under their arms. (You’re unlikely to find many berets, though.) France is a historically Catholic country, so you’ll discover some of the most astounding churches in world even in the smallest, most remote villages.
