AFS-USA's planned giving program recognizes and honors those friends who have made a commitment to the organization's future by including AFS-USA in their estate plans. It is an opportunity for donors to advance the AFS mission in a meaningful way reflective of the spirit and legacy of Stephen Galatti, the visionary founder of AFS Intercultural Programs.

Whether you are a returnee, host family, volunteer, parent , or friend, you recognize how the AFS experience transforms lives. A gift through a donor’s estate plan creates a legacy for the next generation of AFSers and is easy to do.  The best thing to do is to give us a call so we can discuss legacy gift options that are right for you.

If you have already included AFS-USA in your estate planning, please call us so that we may personally thank you and recognize your visionary support in the Legacy Circle.  Please contact the AFS-USA Development Department at (646) 751-2029 or fundraising@afsusa.org. The information you provide will be held in the strictest confidence.

I’m writing a will or trust

Remembering AFS-USA in your will or trust is easy to do. Simply provide a specific dollar amount or other property. You may also designate AFS-USA to receive a specified percentage of your estate assets.

I have appreciated assets

You can support AFS-USA’s educational mission by donating appreciated assets like stocks, real estate, works of art, etc. to AFS-USA. By donating an appreciated asset to AFS-USA, you may benefit from an income tax charitable deduction at the current market value and not pay capital gains tax on the asset’s appreciation.

I need income in exchange for my gift

Charitable trusts blend the desire to secure your own or your family’s financial future with your charitable intent for AFS-USA. A Charitable Remainder Trust will allow you to provide for income to one or more beneficiaries for a term of years or for their lifetimes, and at the end of the term of the trust, the remainder will pass to AFS-USA.

I have retirement funds

You can support AFS by naming AFS-USA as the partial or sole beneficiary of your IRA, 401(K), 403(B) or other retirement assets. By leaving such assets to AFS-USA, you can pass other types of assets to your heirs which may lower the tax burden.

I have excess life insurance

You can support AFS by naming AFS-USA as the partial or sole beneficiary of your life insurance policy. By leaving the proceeds of an insurance policy to AFS-USA the gift of the insurance policy will not be subject to estate taxes.

Benefit AFS-USA, Benefit your Heirs

A Charitable Lead Trust is a gift option that provides a stream of income to AFS-USA for the term of the trust. At the end of the term, the remainder value is usually paid to the donor’s heirs at appreciated values with favorable tax implications.

Legacy Circle

The AFS-USA Legacy Circle recognizes generous and committed individuals who made planned gifts through their estate plans to AFS-USA to create a legacy for the next generation of students, volunteers, and host families.
