AFS-USA mourns the passing of Sarah Yancey, one of our most beloved and highly dedicated volunteer leaders. Sarah most recently served as an AFS-USA Board Member and has been a longtime volunteer. Sarah was a magnificent human being who embodied both the spirit and the mission of AFS for nearly fifty years and was a staunch advocate for international education and intercultural learning.

The Jerry Gulley Memorial Fund
AFS-USA mourns the passing of longtime volunteer and host parent Jerry Gulley. A memorial fund has been set up to honor his dedication to AFS and to creating a better world; funds raised will be used to support activities for local AFS participants.

The Mike Fetters Tribute Fund
With love and appreciation for Mike’s commitment to global family health and his enduring friendship, we are raising funds to create the Michael D. Fetters Scholarship, which will support AFS high school exchanges between the United States and Japan.

The Peter J. Westort Volunteer Leadership Award
The AFS-USA family lost a dear friend and advocate with the passing of AFS-USA Board Member and longtime volunteer leader Peter J. Westort. Peter especially savored his role as host father to many international students and took particular pleasure in seeing many of the students whom he introduced to international travel have careers that enabled them to continue in their global experiences.
