Contributions to AFS-USA for scholarships play a vital role in advancing our mission and our commitment to educational equity. At the same time, these gifts create substantial administrative and fiduciary responsibilities for AFS-USA, including community outreach and extensive communication between participants and our Study Abroad staff before, during, and after their time abroad.

To ensure that our practices are in keeping with industry norms around scholarship management and the needs of AFS-USA, our Board of Directors has mandated that 10% of all scholarship gifts be allocated to fund the core organizational management operations that make such restricted programs possible.

This will strengthen our ability to reach students who otherwise would not be able to participate. It will also help increase communication with scholars during and after their AFS experience to further demonstrate the impact of their AFS exchange.
