2016-volunteer-awards

We are excited to announce the 2016 AFS Volunteer Awards! Once every year, a winner for each award is chosen from the entire AFS global community.

This is a great opportunity to recognize the dedication of outstanding volunteers and see it recognized worldwide. To nominate a volunteer for one of these awards, please see below for more information.

The Galatti Award

Established in 1983, the Galatti Award for Outstanding Volunteer Service honors AFS Volunteers whose commitment, dedication and exceptional journey with the organization have advanced the mission and goals of AFS. During the time, Stephen Galatti served as the Director General of AFS he built and transformed AFS from a volunteer ambulance service into a worldwide organization that promotes peace and global awareness through intercultural learning experiences. In keeping with Galatti’s vision, AFS places the highest value on its volunteers and recognizes them as the drivers of all AFS programs. This award is an opportunity to honor volunteers whose trajectory with AFS are roles models and inspired other generations to volunteer.

Submissions currently closed. The deadline is October 1st 2016.

The Young AFS Volunteer Award

Volunteerism has a significant role to play in harnessing the potential of young people. It is an important means of supporting young people in their diversity while fostering their inclusion in global peace and sustainable human development processes. This award is an opportunity to recognize those young volunteers (up until 30 years or age in 2016) that move the organization forward with exceptional contributions and a fresh perspective. AFS hopes to inspire new generations of young volunteers by recognizing and honoring the fundamental contributions they make on a daily basis to promote intercultural understanding through our programs.

Submissions currently closed. The deadline is October 1st 2016.

The #AFSChangemaker Award

Changemaking is in the DNA of AFSers. Our volunteers facilitate intercultural experiences that are as life-changing to themselves as they are to program participants. AFS volunteers dare to create change, and that can be translated into innovations in our internal processes and operations, as well as into positive impacts on local communities regarding the pressing challenges of our times. This award, presented in two different categories (Organizational Innovation and Social Impact), is a unique opportunity to award those volunteers that are embracing the vast potential AFS has to create change, both within the organization boundaries and beyond AFS.

Submissions currently closed. The deadline is October 1st 2016.

The Peggy and Art Howe Award

Families are at the heart of AFS. Indeed, it is quite common to see multiple members of a family actively volunteering for the organization and sharing the #AFSeffect. With this Award, we want to honor our Families of Volunteers while remembering Peggy and Art Howe, an exceptional couple who remarkably advanced the mission and goals of AFS both within the organization and in society at large.

Submissions currently closed. The deadline is October 1st 2016.
