November 21, 2019—A half dozen volunteers received awards and honors during a Friday evening ceremony at the AFS-USA Volunteer Summit in Minneapolis, MN.
The awards, given annually, are meant to recognize the achievements, dedication and potential of members of AFS-USA’s 4,000-member volunteer community.

Here are the honorees:
Dream Team Award: Columbia Pacific Area Team (Oregon)
The Dream Team Award recognizes AFS-USA teams for exceptional and outstanding service that benefits AFS-USA volunteers in more than one area of volunteer development and recognition.
Emerging Leader Award: Davide Pu of the San Francisco Bay Area Team (California)
The Emerging Leader Award recognizes an individual who shows potential as a future leader within the AFS volunteer structure of chapters or teams. This award is intended to recognize emerging leaders regardless of their age.
Art and Peggy Howe Award: The Baron Family of the Columbia Pacific Area Team (Oregon)
With this award, we honor our families of volunteers while remembering Peggy and Art Howe, an exceptional couple who remarkably advanced the mission and goals of AFS both within the organization and in society at large.
Mission Award: Barb Kelly of the Greater Chicago Area Team (Illinois)
The Mission Award recognizes an individual who holds, or has held, a leadership role at the chapter, team, regional, or national level and has made a significant impact in that role while advancing the AFS mission.
Galatti Award (U.S, 2019.): Ann Steglich of the Michigan Area Team (Michigan)
This award honors AFS volunteers whose commitment and exceptional dedication have advanced the mission and goals of AFS at the grass-roots level. It is the most prestigious commendation granted by the AFS International Board of Trustees for our volunteers.
Galatti Award (U.S. and Int’l; 2018): Susan Rowley of the One World Area Team (Indiana)
Susan’s nomination was submitted to AFS International for consideration for the Galatti International award, and we are proud to announce that Susan was named one of two winners of the 2018 Galatti International Award, bestowed by AFS International.
