AFS Archives Photograph Selected for Cover of National Publication
The Archives of the American Field Service and AFS Intercultural Programs (AFS Archives) received news that its submission of a photograph (depicted above) from the World War II Photographic Collection was selected for the cover of the May/June edition of Archival Outlook. This newsletter is published six times a year by the Society of American Archivists, North America’s largest and oldest archival professional organization, and has a circulation of 5,800. The AFS Archives photograph depicts American Field Service ambulance drivers delivering patients from the Monte Cassino battlefront to a camouflaged Polish dressing station behind British Eighth Army lines. The photograph was taken by George Holton, an AFS ambulance driver in 1944, and is now part of the World War II Photographic Collection (RG2/002) in the AFS Archives.
The cover of the newsletter (with the AFS Archives photograph) can be viewed here. A non-circulating hard copy of the newsletter will be available in the AFS Archives by the end of June, and a digital version of the entire newsletter will be available on the Web site for the Society of American Archivists in December 2011.
