The deadline for the Vaya a América Latina Scholarship has passed. Thank you to all who applied.
In order to apply for this award, you must:- Submit a preliminary application (you must be open to one or more of the above country choices)
- Answer essay questions (see below)
- Complete the full AFS application
- Have an in-home interview with an AFS Volunteer
- No previous Spanish experience is required to apply for this scholarship
- Up to six scholarships will be awarded
- Scholarships may not be combined with Global Leaders awards, but you may apply for both
- Your complete application and essays must be received by March 1, 2010.
- A selection committee including Latin American returnees will review applications and essays to select winners
- Recipients will be notified in early April
- Programs depart June or July 2010
Essay Questions
Please send your responses to scholarships@afs.org by March 1, 2010. Each essay must be submitted on a separate page with your name at the top, and should not exceed one single-spaced, type-written page.
- 1. When you go on an AFS Exchange you will learn more about what it means to be a citizen of the world. What aspects of your character do you feel will help you to meet the cross-cultural challenges of an AFS program? Please include specific examples that relate to your interest in Latin American culture.
- 2. Part of the scholarship selection process will look at your demonstrated interest in either community service, language study, or attending a local school. Please select the type of program that interests you most, and describe what motivates your interest.
Upon submission, all essay responses become the property of AFS-USA and may be reprinted at any time.
