The program will be held in the city of Malaga, located in the Andalucia Province on the southern coast of Spain.
Unlike most AFS programs, you will NOT be placed with a host family. You will be staying in a residence hall along with other American, Icelandic, and Italian students on the program.
A program leader, assigned by AFS Spain, will be present throughout your stay for guidance and support. Residence hall monitors and staff will also be available on-site 24 hours per day. The ratio of participants to monitors is 9:1. All monitors are licensed and experienced working with youth.
60 hours of Spanish language classes (3 hours per day, 5 days per week) will be offered by a professional language school. Beginner Spanish speakers welcome. Your Spanish-speaking ability will be evaluated at the beginning of the program and you will be assigned to the appropriate class level. Each class will have approximately 10 students. A Certificate of Completion will be issued to each participant.
Transportation between the residence hall, language school, and activity center will be provided. Breakfast and dinner will be served at the residence hall. Lunch and afternoon activities will be offered at a local community center and sports club.
Planned excursions include a visit to Granada to see the Alhambra as well as trips to the cities of Ronda and Cordoba.
