After I’ve signed up, how do I receive credit for a nominee?
- As a Global Connections Nominator, you may submit a lead using the nomination form. If you enter two names as co-equal nominators, then any Connections Credits awarded will be split evenly.
- AFS applicants who complete an inquiry form or a Pre-Application, either on the web or over the phone, will be given the opportunity to identify the person who referred them to AFS.
- If you are an educator, for a limited time, you may treat as your nominees up to five interested candidates at your school from among those identified by an AFS Sending Coordinator (staff).
Where can I get help to submit leads?
Contact your nearest AFS Regional Support Center at 1-800-876-2377, and ask for the Regional Sending Coordinator who handles your area.
What if multiple people nominate the same student?
- If the candidate, during the web inquiry or Pre-Application process, names a different person than the nominator who submitted the applicant name, and if both named individuals are participating in the Global Connections program, then each of the two nominators involved will receive one Connections Credit.
- If a single applicant’s name is submitted as a sending lead on multiple occasions by multiple GCNs, then the nominator associated with the first entry received will be awarded the credit, and subsequent referrers will not receive credit.
- If the nominator is not enrolled in the Global Connections Program, and the lead is submitted by the student, the unregistered nominator will be notified (if we have adequate contact information), and given the opportunity to register before the Pre-Application is received in order to receive Connections Credits.
- If you would like us to consider other potential discrepancies, please submit inquiries by email to afsglobalconnections@afs.org and we will respond as soon as possible.
When are Connections Credits assigned to a Global Connections “account”?
When the student submits their completed application and tuition deposit.
When can Connections Credits be redeemed?
As soon as they are accumulated in sufficient numbers. You must be a registered AFS Volunteer to redeem Connections Credits.
If my nominees receive scholarships, will I receive Connections Credits?
- If your nominee receives scholarships or discounts whose combined value exceeds $2500 for a summer program, $3000 for a semester program, and $3500 for a year program, you will not receive Connections Credits.
- If your nominee receives a “Friends and Family” scholarship, regardless of amount, due to a previous connection with AFS, you will not receive Connections Credits.
How will I know I’ve accrued credits?
The plan is to have regular communications generated at key points in the application process; however, these details and processes are not yet fully established. Contact your Regional Field Manager for further details, by calling 1-800-876-2377.
What if applicants don’t identify a Nominator?
Students whose names were not submitted by a Nominator, or who do not name a nominator at the time they complete a web inquiry or Pre-Application, will not have Connections Credits assigned.
When do my Connections Credits expire?
CCs may be carried forward for up to 3 years. Every time you receive or redeem a credit, the expiration date of all CCs in your account gets re-set to 3 years in the future.
May I transfer my Connections Credits to another person?
Once they are awarded, Connections Credits are non-transferable. However, you may re-assign a specific student’s nomination to another nominator, as long as you make the request before the student submits their full application and deposit.
If we discontinue the program, AFS’ central office will transfer $50 per accumulated credit to your local area team or chapter account, where the money may be used for scholarships or other official AFS expenses. This and all other terms of this program are subject to change.
