- All relatives of TRUMPF employees are eligible to apply
- Students must have the ability to maintain consistently good grades, must be mature enough to meet the challenges of living in another country as a responsible member of a family and community and must be in good health
- To qualify for the program, students must be between 16 and 18.5 by September 2009
- Students must have at least a 2.8 GPA on a 4.0 scale to be eligible
- International and domestic travel between the U.S. and Germany
- Secondary medical coverage
- Assistance in obtaining visa and travel documents
- Placement with a carefully selected host family and school
- 24-hour emergency support and around-the-world communication
- Orientations before, during and after the exchange and participation in AFS activities
- Professional German language courses during stay
