AFS Intercultural Programs/USA gratefully acknowledges the DeWitt Wallace/Youth Travel Enrichment Fund for 12 years of support of our National Global Enrichment Scholars Diversity Initiative. Thanks to DeWitt Wallace, more than 2,000 students across the United States have fulfilled their dreams of living and learning in another country as youth ambassadors.
The DeWitt Wallace/Youth Travel Enrichment Fund and other generous donors, offer high school students and recent graduates from diverse backgrounds financial support for year, semester, and summer programs abroad.
A National Youth Leadership Initiative for Deserving Scholars
You might be interested in a place where people speak Spanish, like Argentina, or a country whose culture you find fascinating, such as China. Maybe you’re intrigued by a new democracy, like Latvia, or you are drawn to the source of your family’s heritage. Last year’s DeWitt Scholars participated in year, semester, and summer programs in Argentina, Ghana, Hungary, Japan, Panamá, and Sweden, among others.
Experience Living Abroad
Step into a wider world than you’ve ever imagined––new people, perspectives, and cultures. Studying abroad with AFS will give you a global experience. You’ll explore the daily life of your host family in a new community. You’ll speak the language and make new friends in your host country and from around the world. And, when you return home, you’ll have a greater understanding of yourself, the world, and your place in it.
AFS Provides a Wide Variety of Programs
AFS has the experience and the expertise to help you identify the right kind of program for you. If you are in high school, you can choose from a broad range of year, semester, and summer programs in more than 40 countries.
You can perform community service and receive credit hours, have an outdoor adventure, achieve a better understanding of a language, or simply live everyday life with a family. Our community service programs include a homestay—the hallmark of AFS—which provides the opportunity to live with and learn from a carefully selected host family. The length of the homestay varies with the particular program.
Eligibility Requirements
All of the DeWitt Wallace Youth Travel Enrichment Fund scholarships with AFS are already committed for 2008. We are pleased to award these scholarships to more than 75 bright students of color in support of their study abroad experiences.
