Massachusetts Bay Area Team

The Massachusetts Bay Area Team is a community of all ages who embody the AFS mission to works towards a more just and peaceful world by providing international and intercultural learning experiences.

To fulfill this mission more than 150 volunteers support 65 students from around the world who spend nearly a year living with host families who have generously opened their hearts and home.   We encourage sharing and help facilitate conversations between students, families and the community. We also encourage approximately 50 students annually from the Massachusetts Bay area to become globe trotters by experiencing new cultures.  To do this we work in the community to identify potential host families and share information about AFS with students in middle and high school.

Our geographical area includes all of Rhode Island, eastern Massachusetts from just west of Worcester, and southern and eastern New Hampshire. This includes the cities of Boston, Providence, Worcester, Manchester, Lowell, and Cambridge, as well as Concord, NH. See the "our area" link farther down the page for a map of our Team's communities.

We invite you to get involved!  If you live in our area and are interested in studying abroad for a summer, semester, or a year, hosting a foreign student, volunteering with us, hearing a presentation about study abroad at your school or community group, or are an AFS returnee who wants to reconnect, please contact us for more information.
