Welcome to
AFS Georgia!

Welcome to the AFS Georgia Team website.  We are a group of 80+ dedicated volunteers who collaborate to make the world a better -- and more peaceful -- place through high school intercultural exchange. We are a diverse bunch representing a variety of personal and career interests, yet simply enjoy working together. Won't you join us in our mission?

Where are we located?

The AFS Georgia Team operates primarily in the metropolitan Atlanta area, but we are expanding

our reach throughout the state, especially into Savannah, Macon and parts in-between. We are open to working anywhere statewide if there are enough volunteers to support an area. The team operates in a number of cluster areas, allowing volunteers the opportunity to help in their local communities while also having the option to be a part of the larger Georgia team. Those clusters include, but are not limited to the following metro Atlanta areas: Atlanta/DeKalb; Gwinnett/Hall; N. Fulton/Forsyth; Cobb/Cherokee/Paulding; and Southside (Clayton, S. Fulton, Fayette and Coweta counties). In addition,
we have a cluster in Coastal Georgia (including Savannah, Brunswick, Statesboro and surrounding areas) and a cluster in the Macon/Warner Robins area. We are also trying to grow our presence in both Athens
and Thomasville.

How are we doing?

The AFS Georgia Team continues to grow in the number of involved volunteers as well as hosting and sending students. Just check out the numbers below, which are current for the 2016-17 school year, our numbers are as follows:

  • 80+ AFS Volunteers

  • 30 Students hosted in Georgia Team for the 2016-17 year and semester programs

  • 8 Georgia students sent abroad in 2016-17 for a year, semester or summer programs

While there is a large group of veteran volunteers that make up the AFS Georgia Team, our roster continues to attract a host of new volunteers. As a result, our hosting and sending numbers have increased, and we expect that trend to continue.

How can you get involved?

If you are an AFS returnee, are familiar with the program through family and friends, and/or are simply interested in working with students of different cultures, then we are looking for you! There are all kinds of volunteer opportunities available from working with the students directly to taking on a more "behind the scenes" approach. We have plenty of small tasks available for the occasional volunteer as well as larger, more leadership-type roles for those who are interested in such opportunities. Be sure to click on the Get Involved tab for more detailed information.
