It is our commitment that the $36 FAST processing fee and its payment never stand in the way of a qualified student applying for aid. However, we do request that you carefully and honestly assess your abilities to pay the fee and request a fee waiver only when necessary.
AFS gives FAST fee waivers to families suffering from significant economic hardship. This includes the following extenuating circumstances:
-
temporary loss of income or employment
-
unexpected medical expenses
-
recent death of a parent or guardian
-
displacement or damage due to natural disaster
-
loss of income due to long term disability
-
currently on free or reduced lunch at high school
-
currently receiving food stamps
If you fit into one of these categories and have submitted a Preliminary Application please email scholarships@afs.org with the following information:
-
Provide your name and the reason you are asking for a waiver.
-
Explain which scholarships you are planning on applying for and the amount of aid you are generally expecting.
-
Explain how you are planning to cover tuition that is not covered by scholarships or financial aid.
Staff will respond within approximately one week.
