
CBYX offers American students the opportunity to live and study abroad in Germany for an academic year through joint sponsorship by the US Congress and the German Bundestag. Congress-Bundestag students serve as youth ambassadors of the United States, sharing their life and culture with their German hosts and building greater international understanding of the United States and its diversity.

Application deadline: January 17, 2012
Eligible students are:
• U.S citizens, nationals or permanent residents
• High school students with a GPA of 3.0 or higher
• Aged 15 – 18 at the start of the program
If you wish to apply through AFS, you must reside in one of the following states: CT, D.C., DE, MA, MD, ME, NH, NJ, NY, OH, PA, RI, or VT
• 50 merit-based scholarships to live and study in Germany for an academic year
• Cultural immersion through living with a host family and attending a German high school
• Intensive language course upon arrival to Germany
• Meetings with government officials in both the U.S. and Germany
• Pre-departure and return orientations in Washington, DC with fellow scholarship winners
• Alumni networks through AFS and the U.S. Department of State to continue language and cultural learning
• Access to additional scholarship opportunities at the high school, collegiate, and professional levels
• Opportunities for participation through leadership roles in future AFS programs
• Broadened global view in relation to current political and economic affairs
• Applications must be submitted online by January 17, 2012 through www.usagermanyscholarship.org
• AFS staff and volunteers screen applications and choose semi-finalists, looking for students who demonstrate emotional maturity, cultural sensitivity, curiosity and adaptability.
• Semi-finalists participate in group and individual interview events
• Scholarship finalists are announced in the Spring
• Finalists and alternates participate in pre-departure orientations
