Speedwell Foundation Study Abroad Scholarship Program
Thanks to the Speedwell Foundation Study Abroad Scholarship Program, AFS can provide qualified high school students with an opportunity to broaden their global perspectives. If you don't live in one of the Speedwell counties listed below, you can still apply for need-based aid through our Global Leaders program. Click here to get started.
To be eligible for the Speedwell Study Abroad Scholarship, you must live within the Susquehanna Valley Area Team, which is in Central Pennsylvania, and is comprised of the following counties:

| Juniata | Union |
| Lancaster | York |
| Lebanon |
Candidates must:
- Attend a high school in the Susquehanna Area Team (counties listed above).
- Apply for any available year long high school program.
- Submit a preliminary application and use the code SSAwXXp68239 as your promo code.

Write two essays answering the following questions:
- Why do you want to study abroad with AFS-USA?
- How do you see yourself contributing to the AFS mission while abroad and upon your return?
- Please email a copy of each essay to scholarships@afs.org. Each essay should be one page double spaced.
- Complete your full AFS application by March 1, demonstrating a clear interest in intercultural learning (you will be sent a link to your AFS application after submitting your preliminary application).
Selection Process:
- Students in Lancaster and Lebanon counties will be given priority; however, students from all the counties listed above are encouraged to apply.
- Decisions will be made on a rolling basis beginning in March 2012.
Essay Submission Deadlines:
Spring 2012 Programs: Submit essays by November 14, 2011.
Fall 2012 Programs: Submit essays by March 1, 2012.
