BP Scholarship

BP Global Citizens of Tomorrow Scholarship

The BP Global Citizens of Tomorrow scholarship program provides financially-challenged students the opportunity to study abroad and gain the intercultural skills needed to succeed in a global economy. The goal of the program is to increase students' intercultural awareness and second-language skills.

In 2012, the first year of the program, 25 full scholarships for a year of study abroad will be awarded by AFS-USA to high school students from the greater Chicago, IL and Houston, TX areas who want to study in Brazil, China, India, Malaysia or South Africa.

"Our goal is to make intercultural education available to students who might not otherwise be able to afford the valuable career preparation that overseas study provides."

Helmut Schuster, BP Group's global human resources director

Full scholarships will be awarded to financially-challenged students from diverse backgrounds with strong academic records and a desire to study abroad. Students with demonstrated strengths in academics, particularly math, science, technology or other fields important to the energy industry, will be a focus of the program.

In addition, 18 students from those countries will come to the U.S. to study in the greater Chicago and Houston areas. If you live in the greater Chicago or Houston areas and are interested in opening your home to a BP scholarship recipient, learn more about becoming a host family with AFS-USA.
