With more than 60 years of international education experience, AFS is one of the most valued and reputable high school student exchange organizations in the world. AFS is audited annually and complies with the program standards of the Council on Standards for International Travel. For decades, AFS has participated in educational research about international, intercultural and experiential learning.
Our Support and Safety Standards.
AFS has the utmost concern for the welfare, safety and security of all participants. AFS has a professional network of experienced volunteers and staff providing support in each country:
- Volunteers: With more than 36,000 AFS volunteers worldwide, each student receives comprehensive support from trained volunteers.
- Host Families: Each family is thoroughly interviewed, screened and trained from AFS before hosting. Host families are not paid, so their intentions to host are rooted firmly in intercultural exchange.
- Liaisons: Your child will have regular check-ins with a trained, personal liaison to provide any additional support necessary.
- Support Staff: All parents of participants have a designated Support Coordinator available in the U.S. to contact while their son or daughter studies abroad.
