Switzerland Trimester High School Program – Fall Departure

The Switzerland Trimester Program is the perfect program for those interested in a trimester length, while still having time to experience an amazing culture and lifestyle.

Switzerland is said to have one of the world’s best education systems, and most students go to public schools by public transportation (bus or train). The Swiss school system is extremely competitive, so you will be expected to participate fully in all areas.

The public high school runs from morning until late afternoon, offering core courses such as German, French, math, history, geography, biology, and physical education. Your school classes will be with about 20 other students and you’ll stay together for all your lessons so you can begin to make new friends immediately. During your Trimester in Switzerland, there will be opportunities to get involved in extracurricular activities but they typically won’t be offered through the school.

Switzerland Year High School Program – Fall Departure

Spend one full academic year in Switzerland while living with a host family and attending local high school!

Switzerland is said to have one of the world’s best education systems, and most students go to public schools by public transportation (bus or train). You will start the school year when it begins in August. The Swiss school system is extremely competitive; so will be expected to participate fully in all areas. The public high school runs from morning until late afternoon, offering core courses such as German, French, math, history, geography, biology, and physical education. Your school classes will be with about 20 other students and you’ll stay together for all your lessons so you can begin to make new friends immediately.

AFS will provide several orientations throughout your year in Switzerland. These orientations give you a chance to gather important information about your host country, meet other AFS teens from around the world, share experiences and make friends.

About Switzerland

Family life is important to the Swiss and you’ll spend time with your host family taking trips to nearby natural resorts, as well as having healthy meals together. You’ll discover a love for the outdoors in this country; the Swiss love to go hiking, skiing, and bicycling in the beautiful mountains and forests. While there are three common languages–German, French, and Italian–you will probably live with a German-speaking host family.

Please Note: Travel date ranges are provided to help with general scheduling. Please do not reserve any domestic travel based on these dates.
