Sweden Year High School Program – Fall Departure

Attend high school in Sweden for one full year while living with a host family and experiencing the progressive and beautiful country.

You will most likely attend the second or third year of the gymnasieskola, selecting one of the 17 national three-year programs. Most classes are structured for lecturing with occasionally classroom discussion. Your school will provide teaching materials, lunch and transportation. Also, schools often provide extra Swedish language lessons

About 5 months into your stay, AFS volunteers and staff will offer a 2 day mid-stay orientation, where you can evaluate the first part of your experience and gain more tips to aid your cultural adjustment.

About Sweden

Sweden stretches from the Arctic Circle to the southern tip parallel with Denmark. Outdoor activities are very popular. Most of the population lives in small rural towns, and while the major cities are populous and modern, they retain some of their ancient charm with pockets of medieval streets and architecture. Traditional festivities include celebrations of nature, most notably the return of spring. And during the summer in the North of Sweden, you will experience the midnattssol (midnight sun), the time of the year where the sun does not set.

Please Note: Travel date ranges are provided to help with general scheduling. Please do not reserve any domestic travel based on these dates.
