Panama Semester High School Program – Fall Departure

A semester in Panama will provide a great opportunity to improve your Spanish while attending high school and living with a host family.

With one of the highest literacy rates in the region (97%), you will likely receive a high quality  education while studying in Panama. Classes are typically lecture-based, where study groups then congregate after school to analyze the material. School offers a great opportunity to meet friends and participate in sports, music, arts and club activities.

During your Semester in Panama, your local chapter may organize several activities, including a two-day trip to the San Blas Islands along the Caribbean coast, and a trip to see the Panama Canal. Also, over the course of your program, AFS staff and volunteers will organize a few AFS orientations to evaluate your experience and help with your cultural adjustment.

About Panama

The name Panamá comes from a Native American word meaning “place of many fish.” From the cosmopolitan financial center of Panamá City, to the Chiriqui Highlands cloud forest, to the isolated San Blas Islands in the Caribbean, there’s much to experience and learn in Panamá. You’ll find beaches of unparalleled beauty with coral gardens lining their shores and rainforests with exotic animals and rare birds.
