Honduras Year High School Program – Spring Departure

Polish your Spanish skills in Honduras while living with a host family and attending high school for one full academic year.

During the year, you will study at a local high school in your community. Did you know that in Honduras, the teacher changes rooms while the students stay in the same classroom all day! High school seniors in Honduras are required to do community service work, so you will likely get involved in these meaningful projects. Honduran high schools all require uniforms.

Your local AFS chapter will organize activities throughout the year, which may include parties or excursions to other cities or regions in Honduras. Also, over the course of your program, AFS staff and volunteers will meet with you at orientations to evaluate your experience and help with your cultural adjustment.

About Honduras

Honduras has the world’s second-largest barrier reef, dazzling Caribbean islands, colonial-style towns, and a mountain interior on the west. Honduras is world famous for its archeological sites, including 3,000-year-old Mayan ruins and the mysterious rediscovered city of Copán, but it’s true treasure is the people and relaxed life-style. Mealtime is family time and the food is colorful and varied. You will also enjoy the carnivals and soccer games.
