An academic semester in Chile will give you an excellent opportunity to improve your Spanish in South America, while you attend a local high and live with a warm host family.
During your semester in Chile, you will most likely attend a private school. AFS waives any tuition prices to attend these excellent schools, but there may be additional charge for the school uniform that is required. You will meet with AFS volunteers periodically to evaluate your progress and make sure things are running smoothly. In addition to these orientations, your local AFS chapter will organize activities and side-trips for all AFS students and host families throughout the year.

Chile is the southernmost country of the world or, as Pablo Neruda (Chilean Nobel Prize Winner) once wrote, the “country made for poets.” In addition to the cosmopolitan capital of Santiago, the majestic Andes Mountains run from the world's driest desert in the north down to the lush, untamed wilderness of Patagonia in the South. Composed of a variety of ethnic groups and culture, you will experience Chile through your host family's own unique traditions and customs.
