Paraguay Gap Year High School Program – Spring Departure
Live with a host family in Paraguay for a full academic year, while you attend a local high school and experience a fascinating culture in Latin America.
Did you know that in Paraguay, the teacher changes rooms while the students stay in the same classroom all day? High school in Paraguay is typically quite formal and uniforms are required.
During the year program in Paraguay, your local chapter will organize activities throughout the year, which may include parties or excursions to other cities or regions in Paraguay. Also, over the course of your program, AFS staff and volunteers will meet with you during orientations to evaluate your experience and help with your cultural adjustment. One orientation, for example, is held at some impressive Jesuit ruins.

Paraguay Year Community Service Program – Spring Departure
Spend a year in Paraguay and live with a host family while working with a local community project. This program offers an ideal setting to give back while improving your Spanish and gaining real-life experience.
AFS provides a Spanish language course for your first weeks in Paraguay and then you will transition to working full-time on your designated project. AFS will work with your personal interests to find a great community project for you. In the past, participants have worked with non-governmental organizations, environmental advocacy groups, community development, and public health initiatives. Your host family placement will be near your community project location.

About Paraguay
Peguahe pora Paraguaipe, bienvenidos a Paraguay, and welcome to Paraguay—a country alive with tradition, fusing the indigenous Guaraní Indian culture with the culture of the Spanish conquistadors. Paraguayan social life revolves around the family and sports, especially soccer. You will most likely live in a small town without modern conveniences (dishwashers, microwaves or central air conditioning), but a city is often nearby.
