Semester Community Service Program – Fall Departure

Spend a semester in Honduras working with a local community project while living with a host family and improving your Spanish language skills.

AFS provides 2 weeks (40 hours) of Spanish language instruction in Tegucigalpa, to prepare you for your community service project. During this time, you will live with a welcome host family.

AFS Honduras will work with your interests to find a project that best utilizes your skills. This is a great opportunity to contribute to the life of a community abroad, while living and working alongside its members. Past participants worked in suburban or rural communities for social and environmental organizations. Placements have included helping with social programs, teaching and doing reforestation projects with homeless youth, and assisting a non-profit organization with agricultural and conservation work.

About Honduras

Honduras has the world’s second-largest barrier reef, dazzling Caribbean islands, colonial-style towns, and a mountain interior on the west. Honduras is world famous for its archeological sites, including 3,000-year-old Mayan ruins and the mysterious rediscovered city of Copán, but it’s true treasure is the people and relaxed life-style. Mealtime is family time and the food is colorful and varied. You will also enjoy the carnivals and soccer games.
