You will be teaching English in local schools so that children can develop their language skills in order to work towards a better future, education and work opportunities. We aim to help the community to improve their quality of life through education and maintain their unique Thai culture.
The majority of your time, Monday through Friday, will be spent teaching English classes and assisting local teachers, playing games and leading educational activities that will improve the eager children’s conversational English.
Although rewarding, your days can be long and tiring as you keep up with the children’s energy and enthusiasm, but both the children and their families are extremely appreciative of all your hard work as you see the difference you can make first hand.
Accommodation is in shared (mixed sex) rooms with shared bathroom facilities at the base camp. There is cold running water available for showers and cooking. Drinking water will be provided. Flush (or bucket flush) toilet facilities are available, and participants share all base duties, including cleaning and other chores.
In your down time you will be free to travel in the local area and there will be organized side trips planned for weekends. In this time you could take part in our side trips, relax at the program base or visit the numerous beaches, islands, caves, and national forests for which the region is famous.
Staff in the field will provide training on the skills required, but you may benefit from learning more about local history, culture and customs before you travel.
Volunteers need not have any specific skills; just an enthusiasm and passion for contributing to the project and the local partner objectives. Volunteers need to be fluent in English.
The nearest emergency medical facilities are located in Phuket and Takuapa. At the base camp and work locations we adhere to a strict code of health and safety. All staff are first aid certified and anyone staying on base receives a health and safety briefing upon arrival.
All the most relevant and up todate in formation can be found in our field manual.
Volunteers need to meet at Phuket Airport Place, which is a 5 minute drive from the airport, and we will be meeting you there on Saturday, 10:00 AM on the program start date. We recommend that you arrive a day before the program start date to help acclimate and to avoid being late for your project orientation. If you choose to arrive early, you will need to arrange your own accommodation. There are many options for lodging, some listed here:
Airport Mansion Phuket (Booking.com, free airport transfer)
Phuket Airport Residence (airport surcharge or walking distance to airport)
24/7 Hotel (agoda.com, airport surcharge or walking distance to airport)
In order to volunteer in Thailand you should first acquire a Non-Immigrant-O Visa. For most nationalities this must be arranged in advance. Please contact our office for the supporting documentation.
